David Allen Mason, age 74, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018, in Winchester Medical Center.

David was born in 1943 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Lester and Ethel H. Mason. He worked as a mechanic and driver for Air Freight Delivery retiring in 1992. After retirement he owned/operated Sleepy Hollow Woodworking. Dave was also an owner of Dave and Bob’s Body Shop in Winchester during the 1980’s. David collected coins, Lionel trains, newspaper clippings, old records and loved attending Apple Blossom. He grew up with Patsy Cline, listened to bluegrass music, and was an avid fan of western movies and Dragnet. But most of all, David loved and adored his 38 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

David married Wanda Jean Altizer in November of 1971 in Winchester, Virginia. She preceded him in death in 2010.

David is survived by his daughters, Cartina “Tina” Mason-Snider (David), Carlotta Myers (Don), and Carlynn Mason-Scott (Stephen); sons, Richard H. Dovel, Robert H. Dovel (Joy), Randall H. Dovel, Ronald H. Dovel (Debi), and Roy H. DeSchon; 38 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou Royston (Don), sister-in-law; and brother, Claude Mason (Deborah).

In addition to his parents and wife, David is preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Brenda Dovel; sisters, Sue Lee and husband Jake, and Katherine Souder and husband, Deyerle, and brother Buddy Mason.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Omps, South Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 am at Omps, South Chapel with Chaplain David Snider officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Scott, Zakk Snider, Rob Dovel, Roy DeSchon, Daniel Snider, and Elijah Snider.
