David Alexander Dixon, 68, died Wednesday, April 24, 2019, due to heart failure.
David was born in 1950 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Rachel and Clark Dixon. He received his public education at Winchester’s Douglas High School and graduated from John Handley High School, Class of 1968. David earned a college football scholarship and graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education.
He was a teacher at Maryland’s Prince Georges County School System, retiring in 2013 after 41 years of service. In his free time David participated in competitive tennis, enjoyed photography and cooking, and traveling with his late wife, Cynthia.
Surviving is David’s son, David Alexander Dixon and wife, Anika; siblings, Clark A. Dixon, Jr. (Ora), Beatrice V. Dixon, Thomas E. Dixon (Sharon), and Charles W. Dixon (Margo); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Along with his parents David was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Massie Dixon; sister, Christine Elliott; and brother, George Dixon.
A memorial service will be at 11 am on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel.
