Darrell Griffiths (87) of Winchester, Virginia passed away peacefully on March 2nd, 2026. Born November 15, 1938, in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania to George Griffiths (1914-1982) and Gladys (Crofton) Griffiths (1918-2013). He is proceeded in death by his son, Scott Griffiths from a previous marriage.
Known for his warmth and friendly nature, Darrell was beloved by many and will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce (Conroy) Griffiths, his sister, Cindy (Griffiths) Cotter; sons, David, and Gary Griffiths (from a previous marriage); stepdaughters Debbie Snow and Tammy (Snow) Dillow; 9 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Darrell graduated from Pottstown High School, Pottstown PA. He was a little league football coach, a Big Brother, a woodworker, antique refinisher, handyman and draftsman. Over his career he worked at Bethlehem Steel, Cives Steel, Abex Corp., and Dupont. Even in retirement he continued to design on notable projects such as the George Washington Hotel.
A passionate foodie, Darrell never met a stranger at a dinner table and enjoyed sharing meals out with family and friends and his love of exploring led him to travel the world. As an avid historian and Civil War Re-enactor of over 4 decades. Darrell brought history to life on battlefields and films like Gettysburg and Gods and Generals. He also volunteered at various battle fields including Sky Meadows State Park.
A visitation will be held for Darrell on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:30 with a service to be conducted at 11:30am all held at Opequon Presbyterian Church. Following the service a reception will be held at the church. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions and cards should be brought to the church for the family.
