Daniel Lloyd Walker, born June 5, 1953, in Beckley, WV died April 11, 2026 in Winchester, VA after a brief illness.
He was the son of Robert and Jean (Hespen) Walker, longtime residents of Beckley, both of whom preceded him in death.
Dan was retired from a successful 50-plus year career in the telecommunications industry. He rose through the ranks from a telephone operator in West Virginia to consulting for the highest levels of federal government in Washington.
Throughout his life, he gave generously to a wide range of charities. Beyond financial support, he was an active volunteer who participated in disaster relief missions, youth and educational organizations and similar philanthropic and church-related activities.
He loved sports and was a devoted fan of West Virginia University athletics. Dan attended many games in Morgantown and never missed a Mountaineers game on TV when he was unable to witness a contest in person.
He leaves behind Karen (Conley) Walker whom he married January 2, 1982; daughter, Megan Tuggle (Andy) and granddaughters Anna and Janie of Annandale, VA; son, Eric Walker (Samantha) and grandson Charlie of Santa Clarita, CA; Sister, Susan Walker (Tricia Meador), of Beckley; mother-in-law Janice Conley (Philip, deceased) of Winchester; sister-in-law Kathy Stewart (Chip) of Snellville, GA and a long list of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members whom he loved very much.
Omps Funeral Home of Winchester is handling arrangements, however, at Dan’s request, there will be no public service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those interested in making a contribution in his honor to consider a gift to Our Health, a nonprofit organization that was near and dear to the hearts of the Walker family. Our Health supports about 100 partners in Virginia that help people-in-need better their lives through a range of community healthcare initiatives and services at ourhealthva.org
