Dale L. Thompson, Sr., 81, of White Post, Virginia, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Thompson was born in 1937 in Mt. Morris, New York, the son of the late Glen and Neva Thompson. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean conflict. Mr. Thompson was the owner of D. Thompson’s Inc., a residential and commercial construction company. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Shenandoah Chapter 313 and a past member of the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Thompson loved bluegrass, playing the mandolin, and dancing the polka. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends, especially the precious moments he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Thompson was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he was a Trustee for three years, served as a liaison for the church building project 2009-2010, and enjoyed being involved with the church seniors.
His wife, Helen Thompson, whom he married on February 15, 1958 in Shirlington, Virginia preceded him in death in 2015.
Surviving is a daughter, Debra Ann Frank (Richard) of Alexandria, Virginia and a son, Dale L. Thompson, Jr. (Christina) of White Post, Virginia; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters, Milicent Munger (Donald) of New York and Diana Moffat (Gene) of Mt. Morris, New York; and brother, Dennis Thompson of Stephenson, Virginia.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Thompson and a brother, Marlin Thompson.
A visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel and from 10 am to 11 am on Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2774 Northwestern Pike, Winchester, Virginia.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Rebert officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia.
