Connie Van Tilbury, 86, of Frederick County, Virginia, formerly of Arlington, Virginia, passed away of complications from Parkinson’s on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center, having been a breast cancer survivor.
Mrs. Van Tilbury was born in 1933 in Hollis, Queens, New York, daughter of the late Ernest and Catherine Garland. After high school graduation she earned a Dental Assistant Certification, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Van Tilbury was a very talented interior designer and needlework artist, and also painted extensively in her younger years. She loved poetry and composed poems, having one of her original poems published. Mrs. Van Tilbury was affiliated with the Godfrey Miller Home and Fellowship Center in Winchester. In 1989, while traveling to Christiansted, St. Croix, USVI, she survived Hurricane Hugo with her late son, Craig, a harrowing experience for both of them.
Her husband, Jack D. Van Tilbury, whom she married on October 4, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa preceded her in death in 1997.
Surviving is a daughter, Julie Ellen VanTilbury Orr (Richard) of Bluffton, SC and son, Eric Van Tilbury of Winchester, VA; granddaughter, Rachele Whalen (Patrick) of Rockdale, TX and their children, Joseph, Gwen, Liam, and Shain; granddaughter, Anna Orr of Los Angeles, CA; and granddaughter, Annabelle Waddey Van Tilbury of Henderson, NV.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Van Tilbury was preceded in death by a son, Craig Leo Van Tilbury.
All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
