Connie Lou Smart (née Rotz) passed away on January 11, 2020 at the age of 63.

Connie was born in 1956 in Winchester VA, to the late Carl and Margaret “Marty” Rotz. She graduated from James Wood High School in 1975 and received her Associates in Business from Lord Fairfax Community College in 1977. Connie lived in Stephens City, Virginia where she raised her two children. Connie worked as a sales manager and partner for Royal United, selling industrial pollution control components until her retirement in December 2018.

Connie had a passion for food and enjoyed cooking for friends and family. Over the years, Connie traveled the world including Italy, Germany, Sri Lanka, and Africa. She also enjoyed music and was a frequent member of the Arts Chorale of Winchester. Connie loved to play cards with her family. Connie was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, tireless work ethic, and caring nature.

Connie is survived by her son, Alex L. Smart and his wife Claire, son, Timothy J. Smart, brother, Steven J. Rotz and his wife Gilda, brother, John S. Rotz, and the father of her children, Andrew G. Smart.

A short service will be held at 2pm on Saturday January 18 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at the Omps Reception Center. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite #405, Winchester, VA 22601.

I worked with Connie many years ago and we became friends. We also used to get our children together for play dates, She was a sweet and caring lady. Our deepest condolences go out to her family. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Connie's family at this most challenging time in their lives. A loss of a loved one is always most difficult. We knew Connie as a young, vibrant, enthusiastic girl and teenager growing up in the same community and church. She always had a smile on her face. We remember her with great fondness. Steve and John, we know you will miss your sister in many respects....she was a part of both of you deep in your hearts and souls. May God give you the strength and understanding as needed. We know she will be missed by all of her family and friends. Knowing Connie is no longer suffering and she is in Heaven with the Angels and her Heavenly Father must give you comfort!

Johnny, Steve and family, So sorry to hear of the passing of Connie. She was always smiling and laughing. I remember walking up that big hill road to get to your house and having my first experience with sulfur water. We all loved playing in the Opequon Creek. Also playing softball in the church league. Lots of precious memories. You all have my deepest sympathy and condolences during this time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was so sorry to read of the lose of Connie Rotz, as I knew her in my first year of teaching at the Middle School as we called it then. She was such a nice, kind, thoughtful, and bright young lady. As always, with the lose of someone, I do wish that I had had/ or made the opportunity to connect with Connie as an adult. The JWHS class of 1975 included many of my former students--an Connie is definitely one I recall with great fondness. My deepest sympathy to her family. Beth Boyd

My sincere condolences go out to Connie's family, co-workers and friends. Over the past 15 years, Connie became the face of true "Customer Service" and she surely helped my Company to grow and increase my customer base with her superior knowledge about this industry. I am surely blessed that our paths crossed in such a nice way. She frequently shared her knowledge with others and was well respected by everyone that knew her. That speaks volumes about Connie's character. She was indeed a treasure to all of us that knew her and had a business relationship with her. I am very thankful for her influence on me and also my business. I will surely miss her.

I worked with Connie for over 20 yrs and while it started out as a business relationship...it quickly turned into a friendship. She was one if the best people I knew. Always there to listen (whether it was personal or work) and would offer any opinions to help me out. I just loved her so much. I remember one of the on-going issues that would make her laugh...See I could not say Massachusetts and it cracked Connie up cause I would either say MA or MASS and she always tried to make me say it and I just couldn't and she would get the biggest kick of that...I just remember that infectious laugh. There are many other things that we would just laugh about and that is what made her so special. She is going to be sorely missed. I will keep you all in my prayers! Sincerely, Sherri Ollis

I'll always remember her laugh see her smiling face Hop Blossom. (We'll raise a glass to you this year!) She was so proud of her sons and loved you both dearly.

I am grateful to our Lord, for having had the opportunity to get to know a person like Connie, even if logistically distant living in two different countries, we have always had a special harmony in carrying out our work together and establishing a sincere friendship. The gates of heaven will be wide open for her. My deepest condolences to all her family. Ciao Connie you will always remain alive in my memories.

Connie was a sales associate that I started talking with in 2011 when I started work at Dustex in Kennesaw, GA. Connie started as a sales connection but quickly became a true friend that i dearly loved talking with during our business opportunities. She will be missed in the industry but truly missed as a great person and friend. My life is better because of Connie and her wisdom. I owe a great deal of thanks and praise to Connie for her help becoming who I am today. She was my mentor, she took me under her wing and showed me the path to success in our industry. She was extremely smart and quick of mind, always prepared with an answer to my questions, some good but more of them ridiculous than not. She was a rock, it was a comfort knowing she was just the office next door. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her presence here. She is loved deeply and will be remembered always.
