Cletus Whitmer, 81, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away at his home with his family by his side on July 15, 2013, in Winchester, Virginia.
Cletus was born in 1931, in Stephens City, Virginia, the son of the late David and Lillie Whitmer. Mr. Whitmer was a Tech Sergeant and Flight Engineer with the United States Air Force, having served in the Vietnam War and retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Market Street United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Winchester Moose Club, the Winchester Coin Club, the Vietnam Veterans and the German Stammtisch. His hobbies included coin collecting and farming. Cletus was regarded by his family as a very loving and caring husband and father. The family dogs, Abby, Norm, and Tootsie, were an important part of his life.
Mr. Whitmer married Jeraldine Hickerson Whitmer on July 28, 1995, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Diana Whitmer Quinn and husband, Edward, of Texarkana, Texas, Susan Lynn Whitmer of Federal Way, Washington, Jacqueline Elaine Whitmer of Huntington, West Virginia, and Julia Foster and husband Rick of Winchester, Virginia; three sons, Norman Gene Whitmer and wife, Tammy of San Leandro, California, Jimmy Whitmer and wife, Cheryl of Atlanta, Georgia, and James Robbie Hickerson and wife Pegi, of Blacksburg, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, Nicole Dement, Kristine Quinn Ayd, Tracy Jo Quinn Jackson, Lisa Quinn Cox, Nicholas Castro, Dawn Wickam, Jason Oliveira, Steven Fravel, Cody Fravel, Morgan Elizabeth Whitmer, Nathan Marcus Whitmer, Kathy Whitmer French, Stephen Whitmer, Emma Foster and Erin Foster; and a sister, Peggy White, of Florida. He is preceded in death by eleven siblings.
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Whitmer, David Whitmer, Johnny Whitmer, Robbie Hickerson, Rick Foster, and Eric Braithwaite.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Eric Song officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery in Lost River, West Virginia will be on Friday at 11:00 AM.
