Clayton J. Bennington
Clayton J. “Benny” Bennington, 85, of Winchester, VA died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Bennington was born in 1929 in Bartonsville, Virginia the son of the late Waldo W. and Ida M. Bennington. He was a Construction Superintendent for Howard Shockey and Sons, and a truck driver for Charles W. Carper. He was semi-retired, but not being one to just sit around, he was involved in a number of clubs and activities. His post-retirement job was with Gasoline Alley of Winchester. He was a Lifetime Member of the local chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America and a member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG). He was an avid collector of antique cars and motorcycles, always tinkering in the garage, and always building something. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and he was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Bennington married Laura Lenora Lowe Bennington on September 4, 1948. Mrs. Bennington preceded him in death on November 11, 2011.
Surviving is a daughter, Bonnie Joswick and husband, Steve of Falling Waters, WV; a son, Bradley Bennington of Winchester, VA; five grandchildren, Morgan Sterling Kindsvatter and husband, Mike, Ian Joswick, Jordan E. Bennington, Jillian E. Bennington and Jessica E. Bennington; five great grandchildren, and two brothers, Courtney Bennington and wife, Dorothy, and Claude Bennington and wife, Ruth, both of Winchester. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Kim Bennington.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Reverend W. Clay Knick officiating, assisted by Reverend Charles Harless. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbeares will be Bruce Bennington, Larry Bennington, Randy Bennington, Steven Lowe, Marty Collins and Ian Joswick. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Bly and Rick Thweat.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
