Clara Jean Powell
Clara Jean Powell, age 84, of Stephens City, VA, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 10, 2013.
Jean was born in 1928 in Beaver Falls, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Clara Sepesie. Jean was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School, where she played clarinet in the marching band and was a member of the high school chorus. After graduation she attended Roselia Training School for Nursing in Pennsylvania where she worked as a nursing assistant. After raising her family, Jean attended Dowell J. Howard Practical Nursing School where she received her degree in nursing at the age of 49. Jean was an LPN in the emergency room at Winchester Memorial Hospital for seventeen years. After retiring from Winchester Memorial Hospital, she was a nursing supervisor at New Life Rehabilitation Center. Jean was a member of Abundant Life Church and was of the Lutheran faith.
Her husband, Ralph Lester Powell, preceded her in death on June 14, 1987.
Surviving is her daughter, Robin Hines and husband, Harold, of Winchester, VA; sons, Ronald D. Powell and wife, Patricia of Chambersburg, PA, David A. Powell and wife, Jean, James J. Powell, Martin E. Powell, and R. Douglas Powell, all of Winchester; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and her beloved Yorkie, Samantha.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 15, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Visitation will be followed by the funeral service at 4:00 P.M.
Contributions in memory of Mrs. Powell may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
