Chris was born in 1929 in Flushing, Queens, New York, the son of the late Stergios and Margaret Dengeles. Chris eventually relocated with family to Long Island, New York where he worked in the family restaurant, met his first wife, Marie L. Procter, and started a family. Chris’ love for public service and community drove him to work as a Police Officer in Long Island, New York in the same neighborhood where he lived and worked. Chris’ career eventually turned to food service management which spanned several years and included Sky Chefs, Kennedy Airport, Brooklyn, New York; Amtrak, Pennsylvania Station, New York; Union Station, Washington, DC; and ARA, Leesburg, VA where he retired in 1993.
Chris was of Greek Orthodox faith, held a private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying World War II-era airplanes. His other hobbies included model trains, World War II history and collecting antique guns.
Chris is survived by his wife, Vickie S. Dengeles; daughter, Kimberly M. Ahern (John); son, Christo S. Dengeles (Angie); daughter-in-law, Melissa Dengeles, and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents and first wife; daughters, Lynn M. Waters and Holly M. Dengeles; son, Glenn S. Dengeles; sister, Constance McVicker (John); and brother, Douglas S. Dengeles (Demetra).
A gathering of friends and family will be conducted on Friday, June 7th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Omps, South Chapel with a funeral mass immediately following at Shenandoah Memorial Park Chapel officiated by Father Michael Kontogiorgis. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park. A reception will follow the interment at Omps Reception Center, South Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Chris’ memory to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
