Cheryl Ann Kirby (Smoke), 78, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving daughters.
Born on August 10, 1947, in Frederick County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Paul Smoke Sr. and Elizabeth Whitmire Smoke. Cheryl was a proud graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1965.
Cheryl dedicated many years of her career as a catalog manager with Sears before retiring. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and found joy in her community, her faith, and most importantly, her family.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ann Orndorff and her husband Tom, and Patricia “Patti” Burleson and her husband David; one granddaughter, Emily Ann Orndorff; one sister, Gloria “Jean” Testerman and her canine companion, Josie.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Zachary Thomas Orndorff; her parents; and her siblings, Sarah E. Glynn, Elizabeth M. Walden, Lucy R. Fletcher, John W. Smoke, David A. Smoke, Holmes D. Smoke Sr., Edgar C. Smoke, and Paul E. Smoke Jr.
A graveside service will take place on May 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the mausoleum at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
