C. Langdon Gordon
Charles Langdon “Lang” Gordon, 89, of Winchester, Virginia, died on July 10, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Gordon was born on October 30, 1920 in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Edgar Furr Gordon and Cornelia McKown Gordon. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. When he returned, he began a career in business and real estate in Winchester and Frederick County. He was an active member of Opequon Presbyterian Church for 56 years. Lang also served as Chairman of the Frederick County Planning Commission, and Chairman of the Winchester Regional Airport Authority. He was a member of Hiram Lodge no. 21 A.F. & A.M. and the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, where he was recently honored as the 2010 Historian of the Year.
Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruth Beard Gordon, whom he married on September 20, 1947 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving are his son, Darrell Grey Gordon and wife, Marcie, of Raleigh, NC; his daughter, Nancy Gordon Campbell and husband, J. Sheppard Campbell, of Winchester, VA; four grandchildren, J. Sheppard Campbell, Jr., S. Langdon Campbell, Katelyn McKown Gordon and Greyson Laney Gordon. Also surviving are his sister, Cornelia Gordon Unger, his brother, Fred Neal Gordon and Lang’s very special friend, Ellen “Miss El” Neff.
Pallbearers will be J. Shep Campbell, J. Shep Campbell, Jr., S. Langdon Campbell, Greyson L. Gordon, Richard R. Neff Jr., and David W. Orndorff.
A celebration of the life of Lang Gordon will be conducted at Opequon Presbyterian Church in Kernstown on Thursday, July 15 at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor David Witt and Pastor Marsha Jaureguizar officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, July 14, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
