Charles Garland “Gary” Strickler, 77, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, at Winchester Medical Center.
Gary was born in 1941 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Garland and Charlotte Strickler. He was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1959; a graduate of Randolph-Macon College, earning a BA degree in English in 1963; continuing his education at Boston University School of Theology, earning a Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree in 1967 and a Master’s degree in 1971 from the Boston University School of Education. After graduation Gary was the Assistant Dean, Director of Undergraduate Program at Boston University School of Management from 1971-1984. From 1984-1987 he was Assistant Dean, Director of Graduate Programs at Boston University of Management, before becoming Associate Dean of this program in 1987 through 1989. Gary became Director of Athletics at Boston University from 1989-2004, retiring in 2004. He was a member of Opequon Presbyterian Church in Kernstown, Virginia.
He married Stella Leigh Bell on June 9, 1963 in Stephens City, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of 55 years is a daughter, Kendra Strickler (James Bergey) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Along with his parents Gary was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Thorne.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Opequon Presbyterian Church, Kernstown, Virginia followed by a memorial and celebration of life service at 11 am with Pastors David Witt and Tracie Martin officiating.
