In Loving Memory of Charles Swartz
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charlie Swartz, a beloved husband, father, and cherished friend, who departed from this world on September 2, 2023. Charlie passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in the comfort of his home.
Born on December 6, 1942, in the close-knit community of Winchester. Charlie was the son of James and Helen Swartz. He was raised by Joe and Daisy Sullivan who loved him as their own son. He grew up in Winchester, where he forged lifelong friendships and a strong sense of community. Charlie graduated from Handley High School where he was the quarterback for the football team. He never lost his love of sports and went on to enjoy, playing tennis, racquetball and for many years playing softball for the JV Arthur softball team. After graduating from Handley High School, Charles worked at General Motors for 31 years.
In 1962 Charles married the love of his life, Cheryl Corrigan, and together they shared 61 years of unwavering love, support, and countless cherished memories. Charlie was a devoted husband who shared in both the joys and challenges of life, always putting his family’s well-being first.
As a father, Charlie was a pillar of strength and a source of endless wisdom. He instilled in his children, Kathy and Chip, the values of hard work, determination, and compassion. He was their biggest cheerleader and the voice of reason in times of need.
Charles had a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. His love for the beach extended to beach trips with family and friends. He helped coach many little league football and baseball teams when his children were growing up and never missed any of the games his children and grandchildren were involved in. He was always there cheering them on.
He tried hard not to miss his Wednesday breakfasts with his many friends or his once-a-month lunch with many of his high school buddies.
Throughout his life, Charlie was known for his quiet generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand. He was a friend to all, quick to offer support and encouragement to those in need. His humility, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl; his loving children, Kathy McCarty (Doug) and Chip Swartz (Christina) his adoring grandchildren, Amanda, Matt (Donna), Michael McCarty, Jake and Chase Swartz and his great-grand daughter, Landrie McCarty.
A memorial service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held on September 14, 2023, at Omps Funeral Home at 7PM.
Charlie’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, compassion, and generosity will continue to inspire us all.
