Charles E. White, Jr.

Charles Edward White, Jr., 65, of Gore, Virginia, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, in his home.

Mr. White was born in 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Charles E. and Madeline White. He was a builder, Artisan, and bee keeper. Mr. White was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), the Lions Club in Connecticut and Gainesboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy.

He and his wife, Karen, volunteered in Vietnam, carrying medical supplies and corneas for transplantation, serving with the IOOF for 12 years.

Mr. White was “Santa Claus” for many children in Winchester and Frederick County. He was “Santa” for the Salvation Army, Harpers Ferry, Jay Dee’s Family Fun Center in Inwood and Gainesboro Fire Hall’s “Breakfast with Santa”. He delivered toys to children from a fire truck through the Christmas Always program. Through his church, he visited private family homes spreading the spirit of Santa.

He married Karen Rose Vito on October 4, 1997, in Rumney, New Hampshire.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Kristen Tong of Islamarada, Florida, Dawn Vivian of Santa Fe, New Mexico; sons, Charles Edward White, III and wife, Laura, of Bethel, Connecticut and Michael White of Connecticut; four grandchildren, Samuel Vivian, Grace Vivian, Colin White and Madelyn White.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Reverend Dr. David Young and Rev. Joseph Cervero officiating.

I knew Chuck from Civil War reenacting. He was a great guy always with a smile and sharp whit. After i left the hobby, I would run into Chuck and it was always a pleasure to chat with him. He was of the generation of the Vietnam war, but he set aside any resentment, to help people in Vietnam see again. He was truly a special man.

It was a Great Pleasure too know Chuck as a Reenactor, A Friend, and as an all around Great Person. Always quick with a Joke, Warm Hearted, and just Someone you Always Enjoyed being around. You will be Missed. Rest Well My Old Friend, and I will see you one day on the other side at that Final Bivouac. Your Old Friend, ( Chair that Shows ) I know Chuck is laughing right now as he sees this as I write it. Its an inside joke from our Reenacting Days. Just for you Chuck

We will remember Chuck as a man who lived his life with so much love, he will live in our hearts forever because we were lucky enough to share some beautiful memories with him and his wonderful wife- Karen. So special to us all, he made us all kids at Christmas as he was our favorite Santa! The smile on his face, the sparkle in his eyes, the humor and the way he always made us laugh. We will never forget his sled riding adventure he posted to facebook, that we watched over and over while laughing til we cried! Rebecca will never forget the trips to deliver presents for Christmas Always- always an interesting ride with Santa in the car! We loved our family memories and pictures taken every year at breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus. We even got to see Santa and Mrs Claus sneak a kiss this past year, I am so glad that I took that picture! We also enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July with him and his wonderful fireworks display! Rebecca had fun riding around the property on Chuck's golf cart! A truely wonderful man, loved by so many and we will be glad to see him again in heaven some day.

i had the pleasure of knowing Chuck through the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and his work in Vietnam. I spent a week in Vietnam with he and Karen sharing the cummunal bathroom slippers at the local home where they rented a room during their stay. I feel so blessed to have had the chance to share this experience with them. Chuck was a person who never put limits on himself and alway encouraged other to look beyond the horizon to what could be. An Amazing person that I am proud to have called my friend.
