Charles “Dwane” Knight, 86, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, March 9, 2012, in his home.
Mr. Knight was born in 1925, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Ralph and Isabelle Knight. He worked for B & M Chevrolet as an auto mechanic for 10 years. In 1960, Mr. Knight bought and operated Dwane’s Frame and Axle in Winchester, Virginia, retiring in 1987. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of 2nd Class Motor Machinist Mate.
He was a member of Sherando Presbyterian Church in Stephens City. Mr. Knight was also a member of the Winchester Antique Auto Association.
His wife, Leta Mae Gum Knight, whom he married on June 3, 1962, in Winchester, Virginia, preceded him in death on August 12, 2010.
Surviving are two daughters, Connie Dail of Lakeland, Florida, Elaine Knight of Stephens City, Virginia; four grandchildren, Ryan, Brent and Kevin Dail, all of Lakeland, Florida and Amber Locke of Stephens City, Virginia; three great grandchildren, Ariena, Chloe and Gannon Dail all of Lakeland, Florida; three sisters, Althea Russo of Florida, Thelma Cuthbert of Pennsylvania, and Margie Brown of West Virginia. One sister, Donna Koontz and one brother, Earl Knight preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Reverend Tim Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Edward Marshall, Tommy Marshall, Jeremy McIntire, David Gum, Jr., Mike Gum and Tommy Catlett.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday prior to the service from 11:00 – 1:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
