Cecil Leroy Tennant, 87, passed away from a heart attack on October 29, 2024. Born in Mooresville, WV, he spent his formative years in Pentress, WV. Cecil proudly served his country as a Chief Petty Officer on the USS-Wasp (CV-7) in the U.S. Navy. He went on to dedicate decades of his life to Allegheny Power Systems before retiring with Potomac Edison in Winchester, Virginia.
A proud member of over 50 years, Cecil was made a Master Mason in Oakland Masonic Lodge #192 A.F. & A.M. located in Oakland, MD. His dedication to Masonic principles such as Brotherly Love, Charity, and Truth guided his life and relationships. He cherished the camaraderie he found within the Brotherhood, and the legacy he left was a great source of pride.
Cecil was a man of quiet strength, deeply committed to his faith and community as an active member of Mt. Pleasant-Lamps United Methodist Church and the Beacon Life Group in Fort Meyers, FL. Winters were spent retreating to Fort Meyers, Florida, and many memories were made at his cabin sanctuary in West Virginia. Known for his love of nature, friendships, and hard work, he was a man of few words but steadfast principles. He approached life with a disciplined, organized spirit and a reverence for the simple joys.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Raymer and Marionetta. He is survived by his sister Jean Walker (John), and by his devoted wife, Joyce Tennant, who has been by his side for over six decades. He leaves behind two sons, Randy Tennant of Winchester, VA, Roger Tennant (Gwen) of Baltimore, MD, and six beloved grandchildren: Joshua, Kate (David), Matthew (Samantha), Thomas (Cassidy), Benjamin, and Faith, who all carry forward his legacy of strength and integrity.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, November 4th at Omps Funeral Home on Amherst.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 5th at Omps Funeral Home on Amherst. A Masonic service will begin at 11am, followed by a funeral service for Cecil conducted by Pastor Michael Pettry.
Interment will be held privately at Shenandoah Memorial Gardens Mauseleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant-Lamps United Methodist Church, 1800 Wardensville Grade.
His life was a testament to faith, hard work, and the beauty of simplicity. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.”
