Cecil Bryan Heishman, 92, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026. He was born in Wardensville, WV, October 16, 1933, the son of the late Virgil R. Heishman and Daisy F. Heishman.

He is survived by one sister, Janet A. Cirrani of Middletown, VA. Four brothers, Virgil “Sonny” Heishman, Marvin E. Heishman, James Heishman and Terry Heishman and one sister Betty J. Heishman are deceased.
Cecil graduated Wardensville High School in 1951. In 1954 he was drafted into the US Army and served 15 months in Germany as a Morse Code Interceptor Operator in the Army security agency (ASA).
He was honorably discharged in 1956.

June 18, 1961, Cecil was married to Betty L. Funkhouser at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wardensville and she preceded him in death in 2021.

The couple moved to Winchester, VA and Cecil began his career in the trucking industry. The Lord blessed Cecil and Betty with two beautiful daughters. Sharon L Heishman of Stephens City, VA, and Barbara Lehigh (Rex) of Wardensville, WV.

He leaves behind three grandchildren, Matthew Hogan (Emily) of Chesterfield, VA, and Melissa Beavers (John) of Smithfield, VA, and Charlotte Lehigh of Wardensville, WV and one great-grandson, William Hogan of Chesterfield, VA

Cecil retired in 1995 after 35 years trucking with Novick Transfer, Hemingway Transport and Roadway Express and 30 years with the Teamsters Union.

Cecil was very proud of his service to his country and was a life member of the VFW Post 9760 Berryville, VA. He had served as vice commander at Wardensville, WV post and Stephens City post. He served for several years in the Honor Guard, Winchester Post.

After retirement Cecil and his wife ministered to those in need in many ways. He was a devoted supporter of the work of the Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Network. He helped feed many in the area by his tireless work gleaning and transporting fresh produce to area needy.

Cecil started a ministry of Bicycles for the homeless, through CCAP. He provided many working people with transportation through this effort.

Cecil was a lifetime NASCAR fan and after his retirement he was able to attend the Richard Petty driving school in Las Vegas, Indianapolis, and Daytona. At 72 years of age, he was honored to be chosen with 11 other drivers from across the nation to be the guest of Richard Petty at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway to run 60 laps. Petty was there to cheer them on and served them lunch at his private condo. Cecil proved himself to be a natural on the track hitting a top speed of 160 mph. This was something he would always remember.

Cecil spent the last 5 years at Cambridge Landing Memory Care in Strasburg, VA, where he was loved and respected by all who knew him.

A celebration of Cecil and Betty’s life together will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 5pm to 7pm at Woodbine Farm Market Pavilion, 5199 John Marshall Hwy., Strasburg, VA 22657.
