Catherine Sarah Dodson Emmons, affectionately known as “GiGi”, 86, of Stephens City, Virginia passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Mrs. Emmons was born in 1931 in Little Washington, Virginia, the daughter of the late Stephen and Pauline Dodson. She was a seamstress at Forecast Furniture until her retirement. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Mrs. Emmons loved to listen to Bluegrass music, telling stories and jokes, and enjoyed cooking.
Surviving are her grandson, Roy Lee Emmons II, (Angela) of Stephens City, Virginia; great-grandchildren Shelby and Maddie Emmons of Stephens City; her former daughter-in-law, Leslie Proffitt, and her husband, Randy of Boyce, and their children Randi Proffitt (Donnie Ryan) of Boyce, Jackie Proffitt (Robert Dunn) of Stephens City and Donald Proffitt (Valerie) of Boyce; and sister, Mildred Lofton of Winchester.
Mrs. Emmons was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee Emmons, her son, Roy Emmons, three brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 pm to 8 pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 pm on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Dr. Dan McCoig officiating. Interment will be in Ridings Chapel Cemetery, 1635 Salem Church Road, Stephens City, Virginia. A reception will follow the interment at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Emmons, II, Randy Proffitt, Donald Proffitt, Jeremy Cooper, Kaine Frankenberry, Robert “Red” Dunn, Donnie Ryan and Rocky Dodson.
