Casey Jo Caltrider

Casey Jo Caltrider, age 13, beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter and niece, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at her home in Stephens City, VA. She was born on September 30, 1998, in Winchester, VA. Casey was a student in the seventh grade at R.E. Aylor Middle School.

Casey Jo is survived by her loving parents, Joseph S. Caltrider, Jr. and Cecilia R. Caltrider of Stephens City; her paternal grandparents, Joseph S. Caltrider, Sr. and his wife Marie, of Williamstown, WV, and her maternal grandmother, Donna J. Parsons of Stephens City, as well as her paternal great-grandmother, Nancy L. Caltrider of Parkersburg, WV. Casey Jo was adored by her siblings for her loving and caring nature. Her siblings, all at home, are Paul B. Scroggins, R. “Nathan” Scroggins, Sierra N. Caltrider and Joseph S. Caltrider, III.

Casey Jo was a young lady who focused on the needs of others. She often saw herself in the role of protector and helper. Casey loved animals and had hoped to become a veterinary assistant. She was a student at Boyce’s Mixed Martial Arts, and had recently earned her First Degree Black Belt. Casey Jo was also a fervent advocate for children with disabilities, especially promoting Autism awareness.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 PM on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Robert Throckmorton officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Casey Jo Caltrider Burial Fund, c/o Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, 1260 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA 22602. or the Casey Jo Caltrider Memorial Fund c/o Bank of Clarke County.

My heart is breaking and I can not even say how sorry I am. As I read Casey's obituary with Dusty, we both cried. He and I are so saddened that one of the kids he considered a friend had to pass away and leave this world far too soon!. When he was at Boyce's Martial Arts, he looked up to and admired Casey for her strength and for her God given abilty with karate. He also admired her for her gentle loving nature with Sierra and Dario and other kids. We loved her strength and her gentle side. Dusty and I are both in shock. It is such a loss and the world will always be a little less bright without Casey's shinning spirit here. Please know that if there is anything we can do, please let me know! I so wanted to stand during the service and share about the Casey that I came to know and love. It was a side of Casey that wasn't connected with school, or the many extra curricular activities that she participated in that she loved. It was about the Casey that came to Williamstown, WV to visit her grandpa Joe. For several years, he would pick her up and bring her here to visit. She was so full of life, and inquisitive about so many things, always blinding you with that smiling face. She always was at his side when he came to church, participating in Worship, Sunday School, Bible School, and fellowship activities (she LOVED the horse farm!). She was at his side for two reasons: 1) because attending church and church related activities was part of what was expected when she visited grandpa, 2) because she dearly adored her grandpa, and wanted to be by his side. When they looked at each other, there was no doubt about the deep, intense love and respect they had for each other. She was the "apple of his eye" and vice versa. So as she participated in the many activities of our church, she heard about Jesus, who paid the penalty for sin, offers forgiveness, and who extends the gift of eternal life and security in Him! Casey heard the gospel message, and knew it was a free gift..hers for the acceptance. She had a phenomenal grandpa! Because her grandpa loved her so deeply, he placed her in a circumstance where Casey could receive a gift that is eternal and can never be taken away. Yea, kids...he did also buy her gifts, and they enjoyed lots of cool, fun times. But only the gift of hearing the gospel was one of eternal importance. In closing, I know that Casey would have loved for you to meet her grandpa Joe and get to know the "cool guy" that he is. But most importantly, she would encourage you to hear about, meet and come to know Jesus Christ. He is the answer for all that we face in our daily lives. He offers love, acceptance, forgiveness, security, peace, joy and love.

I loved all the comments you had to say, and the helpful words you said to me about my situation. You were so very brave and very tuff. Casey, I have never met or seen you before but when I saw your picture in the newspaper I was heart broken to read what happened even though I don't personally know you. I don't even know how you passed but I'm still praying for you and your friends and family. Things might have been very hard when you were here on earth but now you are heaven in God's arms and you will always be and you have nothing to worry about. You are my sister through Christ and I just wanted to tell you that you mean something to me. I'm looking through the comments and all these nice people are saying how full of life you were and that you always had a smile on your face, but maybe to you people didn't know what was under that smile. Today I found out what happened to you Casey Jo. I don't know what to say but all of your worries are vanished and you don't have to worry anymore. Those people didn't have a clue to what it was like to walk in your shoes. Maybe they do now. I wish I could have helped you go through the hidden pain. The only person who understood your pain more than you did was God. He was there every moment. I so wanted to stand during the service and share about the Casey that I came to know and love. It was a side of Casey that wasn't connected with school, or the many extra curricular activities that she participated in that she loved. It was about the Casey that came to Williamstown, WV to visit her grandpa Joe. For several years, he would pick her up and bring her here to visit. She was so full of life, and inquisitive about so many things, always blinding you with that smiling face. She always was at his side when he came to church, participating in Worship, Sunday School, Bible School, and fellowship activities (she LOVED the horse farm!). She was at his side for two reasons: 1) because attending church and church related activities was part of what was expected when she visited grandpa, 2) because she dearly adored her grandpa, and wanted to be by his side. When they looked at each other, there was no doubt about the deep, intense love and respect they had for each other. She was the "apple of his eye" and vice versa. So as she participated in the many activities of our church, she heard about Jesus, who paid the penalty for sin, offers forgiveness, and who extends the gift of eternal life and security in Him! Casey heard the gospel message, and knew it was a free gift..hers for the acceptance. She had a phenomenal grandpa! Because her grandpa loved her so deeply, he placed her in a circumstance where Casey could receive a gift that is eternal and can never be taken away. Yea, kids...he did also buy her gifts, and they enjoyed lots of cool, fun times. But only the gift of hearing the gospel was one of eternal importance. In closing, I know that Casey would have loved for you to meet her grandpa Joe and get to know the "cool guy" that he is. But most importantly, she would encourage you to hear about, meet and come to know Jesus Christ. He is the answer for all that we face in our daily lives. He offers love, acceptance, forgiveness, security, peace, joy and love.

He and I are so saddened that one of the kids he considered a friend had to pass away and leave this world far too soon!.
