Carroll was one of my customers at Granny's. He was my first customer of the day everyday at 6am. He always wanted a full course dinner every morning and we were always happy to do it. We will miss him so much. He always gave me great advice. We will miss him terribly. We all loved Carroll i hope he always knew that.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Aunt Charlotte and cousins Kim, Matt & Kevin during this difficult time. I have many great memories with Uncle Carroll as a kid and have tried to reflect fondly on those memories over the last few days. I remember him being a cowboy through and through, and can still see him in my mind on a horse riding across the fields. He was fiercely dedicated not only to the farm/business, but even more so to his incredible family. Although I haven't seen him in many years in person, his proud smile in pictures on social media, playing with his grand kids or roping steers in a ring made many a day better. We love you all and will continue to pray for you going forward.
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

I first met Carrol when we were teenagers deer hunting with his dad inShockeysville Va. We have remained friends for more than 50 years. I visited his farm. Many times to purchase apples and always admired his progressive methods both on the farm with crops and cattle or in his orchards. We visited each. Apple blossom as we both were looking forward to. Retirement. During those visits he would always have on hand a fresh. supply of morels he would fry up while we visited. He was a great and loving family man and always had smile. My sincere heart felt condolences go out to his family.

Many prayers are coming your way. My association with the Messick family goes back to the early 1950's. Coming from a dairy farm in Rockingham County, working in the agriculture field was very rewarding for me. Carroll was a true friend. I have memories of times visiting him at the farm, even after I retired. Virginia McClure

I would like to send my condolences to the Messick family. I have known Carroll for many years and have many fond memories, one being all of the summers when he would be roping, he was one of the most stand up and respected men that I know. Sending my thoughts and prayers for Carroll's family and friends. I don't think he ever met a stranger. A beautiful person that I am so glad I got to meet. I will never forget him and his contagious smile or the story about the deer. RIP Carroll
Jo (Jones) Miller left a message on April 21, 2021:
Hello Charlotte, I hope you remember me, but if you don’t... Carroll and I went to school together and my parents, Albert and Helen Jones live beside you guys. We were there when Kimberly was born. We would watch you with the horses and see Kimberly ride. Such a treat. Mom and Daddy were given lifetime rights to live there on that lot, by Carroll’s father. And, Carroll agreed to stand by that and watch out for them. Which he did and I was so grateful for that. Carroll was the kind guy who would do anything for anyone. He was a very “KIND SPIRIT” and a friend for life. I am so sorry for you loss. Jo Miller

A legendary farmer, Cowboy, trusted friend, long time roping partner and down right good human being! A wonderful family that took us in as their own. So many good times roping and hanging out at "Carroll's Sand Box". I can only imagine the stories you and Bill will be telling at the arena in the sky! Your kindness, generosity, advice and laughter will never be forgotten. Prayers and deepest sympathy to Charlee, Kim and Families. Until we rope again partner!

Carroll and and I have been friends since being teenagers. We met in Shockeyville Va. hunting deer with his dad and Jim Beaver. We shared many memories of those days and grew to be good friends. I bought his apples for the Musselman company for many years and always admired his business savvy. It was always my pleasure to visit with him at the farm or at a roping event. Each apple blossom I would stop by for a visit and Carrol would fry up some morels while we visited. I always looked forward to that visit. He was a good friend he loved his family and the farm and orchard I I will miss him.

I was fortunate enough to meet Carroll shortly after moving to Winchester in 2008. We soon became good friends..... I’d been through a lot and he had too... we just hit it off. Not to take anything away from the the pain I suffered in losing my wife to breast cancer in 2007...... Losing Carroll hurts just as bad...... Good person, good friend. Pray for healing to his family and many, many friends

Messick family my heart breaks for you. Carroll was someone you had to like with that great smile, laugh, and jokes. I thought the world of him because he always spoke and asked me how I was doing every time I saw him. He had a heart of gold. I will miss seeing him on a tall horse at the ropings with his great big smile.
