Carolyn J. Vassar

Carolyn June Patterson Vassar, 65, of Kearneysville, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Virginia.

Carolyn was born in 1947, in Buckhannon, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Earl J. and Nora J. Patterson. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. An original coal miner’s daughter, she was a talented crafter and exceptional cook. She was of the Methodist faith.

She and Jim Vassar were married on June 9, 1966, in Brunswick, Maryland.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Jim; her daughter, Vannessa Vassar-Bush, son-in-law, Christopher, and granddaughter, McKenna Bush of Warrendale, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Michelle Vassar of Williamsburg, Virginia; brother, Kevin Patterson and his wife, Molly, of Buckhannon, West Virginia; and nephews, Christopher Patterson and Casey Patterson.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, 161 Fort Collier Road, Winchester, Virginia 22603 or the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75231.

Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, Virginia.

I could smell her cabbage and potatoes from NC to WV. I always seemed to call when she was fixing it. Carolyn was like a mother, best friend, and of course an Aunt to me. Her two daughters were like my own girls. I spent more time at her house than I did my own. Whenever I would babysit she ALWAYS had me Gibbles chips, pepsi, and Hank Williams Sr. albums to listen to. She would always take me shopping and buy my clothes for school in exchange for babysitting...that was to make sure I got the benefit of the money I earned. She was the best! I loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed my many. She touched everyone in one way or another. I love and miss you!
