Carole Elizabeth Rucker, 84, of Stephens City, Va, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Winchester Medical Center.
Carole was born in 1939 in Washington D.C., the daughter of the late Owen John Ricker, Sr., and the late Elizabeth H. Ricker. She graduated from Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, VA. Carole worked as a day care worker at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Woodstock, she was school nurse at Herndon High School and was a secretary for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon. She volunteered for Prince William Hospital in Manassas and at Access Urgent Care in Reston. Carole enjoyed gardening, flowers and visiting Ocean City, MD. She was a diehard Redskins fan. Carole’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and enjoying family gatherings.
She married John Daniel Rucker, Sr. in Arlington, VA, and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1975.
Carole is survived by her daughters, Tekla Monteleon (Chris) of Moorehead, NC, Susan Sherfey of Stephens City, VA, Kelly Mercurio (Mickey) of Martinsburg, WV; sons, John Daniel “Danny” Rucker, Jr. (Jeanne) of Charles Town, WV, Thomas Owen “Tom” Rucker (Jenni) of Boyds, MD; grandchildren, Ronnie L. Sherfey, Jr., Amy E. Branch (Ryan), Jessica R. Akers (Aaron), Bryan M. Sherfey (Lauren), Holly R. Rucker, Lauren E. Curtis (Victoria), Owen J. Harris and Max O. Rucker; great-grandchildren, Cameron Branch, Mila Branch, Haylynn Moreland, Ayden Sherfey, Autumn Akers, Peyton Sherfey, Evelyn Akers, Miles Sherfey, Cole Sherfey and Alice Akers; and her brother, Lawrence “Larry” Ricker (Paula) of Sarasota, FL.
Along with her parents and husband John, Carole is preceded in death by her brother, Owen John “Johnny” Ricker, Jr. and her canine companion, Roxie.
A visitation will be held for Carole on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 1pm with a celebration of life held at 2pm, all held at Omps Funeral, Amherst Chapel.
