Carol Tomblin Bayliss, 82, of Berryville, VA, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at The Retreat in Berryville.

Carol was born in Winchester, Virginia on May 31, 1941, the only daughter of the late Calvin and Della Tomblin. She graduated from Clarke County High School in 1959 and began her career working for the Bank of Clarke County. She worked for the Frederick County Government for 30 years, until her retirement in 2003.

She married John “Pete” Levi in 1960 and had three sons.

She later married Robert “Bob” Bayliss on May 15, 1971, and remained married until his death just days before their 40th wedding anniversary.

Carol thoroughly enjoyed flowers and gardening, and entertaining family and friends at her home. She had a deep love of traveling, and she and Bob had the opportunity to travel abroad numerous times, including spending many vacations in Aruba with friends, and frequently visiting her beloved Ireland, where her mother was born.

She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and later St. Bridget of Ireland Catholic Church.

Carol’s memory is carried on by her sons, Sam Levi (Joanna) of Berryville, VA, and Kevin Levi (Teresa) of Winchester, VA; her granddaughter, Emily Hardesty (Doug) of Tampa, FL; and her great-grandson, Cooper Hardesty; as well as her niece and nephew and many friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Reid and Donald Tomblin, and her son, John Michael Levi.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Retreat at Berryville for the care and love they gave Carol over the last year, especially Kendra and Chris, as well as the team at Blue Ridge Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel on Saturday, April 27th at 11am with a reception to follow. The family will be honoring Carol’s wishes to have her ashes spread in Ireland at a later date.

Kevin, Teresa, Emily and the entire Levi Family: My sincerest condolences to you and all of your family as you move through the difficult days ahead. May your sweet and many wonderful memories made with Carol over the years comfort you now and in the future. She was a very dear lady. I know the last year or so has been really hard to endure with the Dementia. It is such a cruel disease as you know I have been struggling with my sweet Buzzy and now my dad. Just know that she is no longer confused or hurting or lost in any way. She will forever be your Guardian Angel and be by your sides. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. We were so sorry to hear of Carol’s passing. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with all her family at this very sad time. Carol was a dear friend who we have known for many years. A lovely lady who will be missed by everyone who knew her. Rest in Peace.

Carol was a wonderful friend. I will truly miss her. We have had many a good laugh and time together. I am thinking about all the family. She is at Peace I know. She is gone but never forgotten. I know I will meet her again.

I regret that I will not be able to attend Carol’s celebration of life.My granddaughter’s first communion is on the same day.Carol and I worked together for Frederick County for many years. Starting out at the old 9 court square and moving on up to our new location on N. Kent street.Our challenges were many but our efforts were rewarded with many successful outcomes.One finds that a good dose of a sense of humor can go a long way when difficult situations are encountered. I will miss Carol and her outstanding dedication to Frederick County. John Riley

Condolences to the family. I met Carolyn in 1972 as we were both returning to work from our lunch hour in downtown Winchester when she complimented me on my red coat. Over the years we had great conversations whether in downtown Winchester, at the grocery store, at a restaurant, or as a result of her employment at Frederick County and mine at the City of Winchester. She was a wonderful person.

Carol went to high school with my late husband, Kirby, and she and I became friends, working together for decades. Carol loved life and her family so much. She was a beautiful lady, always dressed to perfection and her work for Frederick County was stellar. She was a blessing to all who knew her and we thank God for the mark she left on this world. May God bless and comfort all of her family.

Dear Family of Carol, I was briefly a caregiver for Carol about two years ago at her beautiful home, then saw her regularly at The Retreat as I was taking care of another patient/client. I keep the fondest memories of her. She was a warm, friendly, wonderful woman, always so well dressed. I met several members of her family and liked them very much too. Sad to hear of Carol's passing. She was such a wonderful person , always full of wit! Visiting her at the office many years ago we would have our chats to catch up. Much love and prayers to the family.

Tom Culver and I are extremely sad to read of Carol's passing. She was a classmate of Tom's and since I'm a Clarke County native, I've known Carol and her family all of my life. We rarely saw each other but when we did, it was as if all of that time just rolled away and we struck up right where we left off. She was a great gal and we always enjoyed catching up. Sam , Kevin and family, We are very sad to learn of Carol’s death! We understand the struggle as we are walking through Alzheimer’s Disease with Steve’s Mom currently. We will not be available to attend the service for Carol. Sadly, we’ll be attending another private service same day and time for a family member.
