Carol Vannoy Bjork
Carol Nelson Vannoy Bjork, 67, of Inwood, West Virginia, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013, in Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.
Carol was born in 1945, in Richwood, West Virginia, the daughter of the late James H. and Bonnie A. Nelson. She was a graduate of Shepherd College receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education and West Virginia University receiving a Master’s Degree in Education Administration/Supervision. Carol was a retired school teacher for John Handley High School, where she taught Business. She was the Handley High School Girls Tennis Coach, Advisor for the FBLA, and VICA/DECA club sponsor. Carol also taught in Frederick County Public Schools and was voted the Virginia Business Teacher of the Year in 1988. She was a member of Winchester Church of God in Frederick County, Virginia.
Surviving with her husband, John R. Bjork, are two daughters, Lisa J. Vannoy of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Cindy Vannoy Smith, and husband Ken of Winchester, Virginia; step-son, Jonathan H. Bjork and wife, Ellen, of Fairfax, Virginia; eight grandchildren, C.J. Lord and wife Justyn, Brittany Smith, Maria Haas, Kristen Smith, Emily Smith, Caroline Smith, Jillian Bjork and Ava Bjork; one great grandchild, Kaelyn Lord; sisters, Audrey Ross of The Villages, Florida, Linda Garrett of Summersville, West Virginia; and brother, Jerry Nelson and wife, Ellen, of Panama City Beach, Florida.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday at Winchester Church of God, with Dr. Darrell Waller officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville, West Virginia.
