Gladys May Shellenberger Schobel, 93, of Frederick County, VA, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, in her home.

Mrs. Schobel was born in 1919, in Providence, RI, the daughter of Harry and Lulu May Shellenberger. She was a homemaker, loving Mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Washington Park UMC in Providence RI for over 80 years, where she was very active. Mrs. Schobel was a volunteer driver for the Association of the Blind for 40 years.

She was married to Herman M. Schobel, who preceded her in death on August 30, 1980.

Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Schobel Rind of Miami, FL, Jean Schobel of Winchester, VA; two sons, George Schobel of Sarasota, FL, Richard Schobel of New Portland, ME; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and sister, Lucille Whelan of Boynton Beach, FL. Two sons, Donald and Raymond Schobel and one sister, Freda Schofield preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at a later date in Rhode Island.

Jeannie, It doesn't matter where we are in life when we lose our Mom, it is a loss like no other. She is so much a part of who you are, a source your strength and resilience. Your stories of Gladys always brought out your good humor and a special tenderness. Your loyalty, love, and laughter made the last years of her life the best that one could hope for, and that is the greatest tribute you could have given her.
