Carol Ann Madagan
Carol Ann Reed Madagan, 67, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Monday, May 9, 2011, in her home with her loving family at her side.
Mrs. Madagan was born in 1943, in Staunton, Virginia, the daughter of Lillian V. Reed of Roanoke, Virginia and the late Walter Roscoe Reed. She was the bookkeeper at Gaunt’s Drug Store in Winchester. Mrs. Madagan was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and met many dear friends at the Tuesday morning Breakfast Bowling League, and the Friday Night Late Owl Bowling League. She was a member of the Bridge Club where she met with all her closest friends from high school, and she enjoyed playing cards on Thursday nights with her dear friends. In addition, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles as well a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 1367. Mrs. Madagan was a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 1961.
She married Harold “Doc” Frederick Madagan, Jr., on November 1, 1964, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with her husband and mother are two daughters, Stacey Ann Madagan Umbenour and her husband, Terry of Winchester, Amy Linette Madagan Haines and her husband, Frank, all of Winchester; her son, Harold “Hal” F. Madagan III and his wife, Josie, of Winchester; seven grandchildren, Charles “Chaz” Frederick Shull, Taylor Ann Reed Shull, Harold F. “Howie” Madagan IV, Gavin Parker Haines, Haden Matthew Madagan, Grayson Reed Haines and Harrison Joseph Madagan, all of Winchester and one brother, Steve Reed of Los Angeles, California.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend William Withers and Pastor Chuck Davis officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia. A reception will follow at Calvary Church of the Brethren.
Pallbearers will be Brett Butler (nephew), Morgan Butler (nephew), Jeff Mongold, Buddy Dunlap, Mike Foreman, Russ Potts, Earl Riddick, Jerry Fout, David Alley, and Ray DuBrueler.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bowling League, the Bridge Club, all employees of Gaunt’s Drug Store, John Handley High School Classmates, Class of 1961, and all her close friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 7:00-9:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
