Carlton L. Ramey, Jr.
Carlton Leslie Ramey, Jr., 78, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, November 5, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Ramey was born in 1931, in Indian Hollow, VA, the son of Carlton L. Ramey, Sr. and Mary Flora Ramey. He was a supervisor for the Abex Corporation until his retirement in 1980. He was then a Clerk of the Works for the Frederick County and City of Winchester School Boards, having overseen 23 projects through the city and the county. He was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church and was treasurer and secretary of the Mt. Olive Cemetery for 45 years. He was a board member and trustee of the Frederick County Conservation Club. He was also a member of the Tin Can Sailors, the Farm Bureau, the NRA and the American Legion Post 21 of Winchester. He was inducted into the James Wood High School Hall of Fame for playing baseball while at Gainesboro High School. He was a farmer and avid outdoorsman, and was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1949-1952, and was on the Destroyer Ship USS Robert A. Owens DDE827.
Mr. Ramey married Linda L. Miller on August 18, 1951 in Winchester, VA.
Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Lucinda Bell, Karen Jeter and her husband, Charles, and Belinda Heflin and her husband, Eric, all of Winchester, VA, and Carmen Westfall and her husband, Anthony of Sacramento, KY; nine grandchildren, Andrea Ramey, Calan Bell, Aaron Jeter, Ashton Hoff, Emily Hoff, Josh Heflin, Krystal Hall, Eric Heflin II and Lori Heflin; five great grandchildren, Morgan Wood, Madison Pierce, Natalie Heflin, Kaylee Hall and Aleigha Heflin; a sister, Mary Lou Rissler and her husband, Tom, of Winchester; two brothers, Donald Ramey and Phillip Conley Ramey and his wife, Sue, all of Winchester, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Dan Spaugh and Reverend Anthony Wadsworth officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Hershel Kelly, Ron Moran, Aaron Jeter, Robert Rissler, Charles Wine and Eric Heflin.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
