Borden Melvin “Sonny” Ritter, Sr., 85, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Ritter was born in 1935 in Frederick County, VA, son of the late Loretta Virginia and Borden Ben Ritter. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Ritter was a retired truck driver with Fulton Trucking and a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church in Frederick County, VA.
Mr. Ritter loved to play golf with his Uncle “Screech” and was on bowling leagues for many years. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and always enjoyed fishing. Mr. Ritter especially liked taking trips to Myrtle Beach with his wife, Maxine, and “trucking” with her after his retirement from Fulton Trucking.
He married Maxine Jane Kerns on November 5, 1960 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are daughters, Susan Diane Ritter Stevens (Anthony) of Berkeley Springs, WV; sons, Borden Melvin Ritter, Jr.(Jessica) of PA, Richard Wayne Ritter (Jeanie) of Tampa, FL, Donald Harry Ritter (Vickie) of Gainesboro, VA, Brian Alan Ritter (Liz) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Mathew Stevens (Debbie) of Hedgesville, WV, Amanda Owens (Nick) of Havelock, NC, Jordan Ritter and Nicole Ritter of Bristol, TN, Justice Ritter of PA, Alexis, Zachary and Abigail Ritter all of Winchester, VA.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Morris.
A visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm with Pastor Chris Jones officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Frederick County, VA.
Pallbearers will be Albert Gadoury, Jacob Gadoury, Paul Sites, Phillip Landis, Frank Whetzel and Steve Whetzel.
