Bobby Lee “Bob” May, 89, of Frederick County, VA, passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born in 1936 in Rockbridge County, VA, son of the late Charlie and Ruth May. He graduated from Effinger High School in Lexington, VA and proudly served in the United States Air Force. Bob retired from the United States Postal Service. During his employment years he had worked as a long-haul truck driver, was a Virginia State Trooper, and worked in security at Dulles Airport. Bob was a member of Winchester Moose and a lifetime member of the American Legion in Purcellville, VA. He enjoyed watching the NASCAR races, going camping and hiking, boating, and skiing. Bob was a “tinkerer”, he loved working in his garage and “tinkering” with lots of different projects. He was a member of Lauderdale Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lexington, VA.
Bob married Shelvie Sorrells on January 25, 1958, in Lexington, VA.
Surviving with his wife of 67 years are daughters, Susan (May) Kelley and Teresa May; sons Keith May and David May (Laurie); grandchildren, Dennis Kelley (Ashley), Kevin Kelley (Kimberly), Anne Marie Lewis (Eric), David May, Jr., Steffanie Metz (AJ), Emily May, Robbie May and Ryan May; great grandchildren, Adam, Mason, Sawyer, Kaden, Knox, Wrenley, Cali, and Silas; and many cousins and dear friends.
A visitation will be on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. A second visitation will be prior to the service on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 11 am to 12 pm with a service to follow at 12 pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastor Larry Santmyer officiating. Interment will be in Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
