Billy Ray Lord, 78, of Stephens City, Virginia, died April 2, 2016, at Blue Ridge Hospice.
Mr. Lord was born in 1938, in Kingsport, Tennessee, the son of the late Enos V. Lord and Alice Lord. He was a veteran having served the U.S. Army. He was retired from the Fairfax County School Board. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to so many. He will be forever remembered for his love of the outdoors especially hunting, fishing and camping. Bill was a one of kind individual with a true sense of humor and passion for life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Lord married Brenda F. Lord on May 16, 1959 in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Surviving with his wife of 57 years are his two daughters, Rita F. Lord, or Winchester, Virginia and Sharon M. Brown and her husband Brian R. of Winchester, Virginia; his son, Michael W. Lord and his wife Tammy, of Garrisonville, Virginia; nine grandchildren; Beau, Lori Beth, Heather, Marcus, Tiffany, Gayland, Jordan, Amber and Amanda, fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ina R. Venture, of Church Hill, Tennessee and Louise Bushell, of Church Hill, Tennessee; and his brother Carl W. Lord, of Lenoir City, Tennessee.
Mr. Lord was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca L. Grove; one sister; and three brothers and one grandchild, Alexandra Brown.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Omps funeral home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 3:00 PM, with Deacon Carl W. Lord officiating. Interment will take place at Shenandoah Memorial Park Cemetery, Frederick County, Virginia. Military Honors will be afforded by the V.F.W. Post 2123.
