Beverly Drake Herring, 84, of Winchester, Virginia died peacefully Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury.
Beverly was born September 12, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late William F. and Vivian L. Drake.
Beverly was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and her family all knew how much she loved and treasured them! She grew up in a Christian household but came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ later in her life. It is her faith in Jesus that guided her life and was the source of the love she shared with so many.
She loved Bible studies, group singing, needlework, playing bridge and dominoes, and travel.
Beverly graduated from Westhampton College, University of Richmond in 1955 majoring in psychology. Following graduation, Beverly headed up the psychology department of Medical College of Virginia. From 1964-1966, she served as President of the Women’s Club of Herndon, and oversaw the creation of Bruin Park in Herndon, VA. She also served as the President of the Nine Hole Ladies Golf Association of the Reston Golf and Country Club from 1978-1979. In 1979, she went back to college to take courses to become an administrative secretary.
Since 2002, she called Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury home. She was always loving and cheerful and a witness of Christ to staff and friends at Westminster-Canterbury.
Beverly was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Owen C. Shull, and her second husband, Ralph L. Herring. She is survived by her twin brother, Jon W. Drake, and his wife, Ann, of The Woodlands,Texas; daughter, Susan Gauldin Hickman and her husband, Dave, of Berryville, VA; son, Robert Owen Shull and wife, Leisa, of Herndon, VA; daughter, Linda Shull Heater and husband, John, of Emmaus, PA and stepson Steve Herring and wife, Jacki, of Cross Junction, VA; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, (1260 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA) on Sat. Sept 29, 2018, at 2:30 pm with Pastor Mike Minter of Reston Bible Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. A private interment will be held following the service.
