Betty Jean Purtlebaugh Walther, 84, of Frederick County, VA, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at a local nursing facility.

Mrs. Walther was born in 1940, in Frederick County, VA, the daughter of the late Mervil and Evelyn Purtlebaugh. She was a homemaker and attended Wesleyan Fellowship Church in Winchester, VA. She enjoyed duckpin bowling, gardening and playing in the dirt as well as sewing in her earlier years.

She married William Lewis Walther on June 25, 1960, at First Baptist Church in Winchester.

Surviving with her husband is a daughter, Brenda Kaye Partlow (Dave) of Winchester, VA; sons, Robert Lewis Walther (Teresa), Roger Lee Walther (Debbie), all of Winchester, VA. Grandchildren, Jason L. Walther, Shelly R. Walther, Meganlynn M. Largent, Bethany M. McGuire, David M. Partlow, Jesse L. Walther, Bryce Walther and Colin Walther; great grandchildren, Maverick, Lane, Ariel, Zoey, Lily, and Maddie, and sister, Sue Souders, brothers, Bill Purtlebaugh, and Michael Purtlebaugh.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by son, Ronald William Walther and brother, Jimmy Purtlebaugh.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm with a service to be conducted the following day Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 11am all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Pastor Clint Lawyer will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association Donor Services, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

My deepest condolences. Betty was a very special cousin and will be missed greatly. I always looked forward to seeing her and Bill at our yearly family reunions and this year there will be an empty seat at our table. But I fully believe she is now sitting at the table with Jesus and her family in heaven. Betty and Bill were such a tremendous help with my mother, Marjory Eaton, when I needed them. I always knew both of them were only a call away and always rushed to my side when I called. Betty was such a kind-hearted person and always so generous with her time. I will always remember the special times we had together. Rest in peace Betty! You were and always will be loved and hold a special place in our hearts.
