Betty J. Bannister “Betty Jo”, 71, of Winchester, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center.
Ms. Bannister was born in 1945 in Wardensville, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Eleanor P. Willis. She graduated from Douglas High School, Winchester, Virginia. Betty Jo was a Transport Supervisor for Winchester Medical Center for thirty-two years, retiring in 2012. Before working at the hospital Betty Jo was employed at Diana Shop, which was located in downtown Winchester during the 60’s and 70’s. Betty Jo loved Apple Blossom, always looked forward to family and friends gathering at her home after the parade for food and fellowship. She was a member of Douglas Alumni Association and The Women of the Moose Winchester Chapter 1367; she enjoyed cooking, but most of all, cherished her time with family.
Surviving is daughter, Lynette B. Lavender and husband, Henry; son, Brian P. Bannister; grandchild, Marcus P. Bannister; and many loving family members and friends who she truly adored and loved.
Betty B’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of her friends at the Winchester Medical Center and the men and women at the Winchester Moose Lodge for their kind care and compassion that was shown to their mother.
Betty B’s belief was “if you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with them. The people who give you their food, give you their heart.”
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, with Pastor Calvin Redman and Pastor Leland Collins officiating at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia.
We all know that one of Betty’s biggest concerns was everybody staying warm. So, in lieu of flowers, please bring a blanket to the funeral home to be donated to CCAP in her memory.
