Betty H. MacDonald, 93 of Winchester, VA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Westminster Canterbury.
Betty was born in 1930 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Oliver C. Hoover and Alberta (Hendricks) Hoover. She was a graduate of Towson University, earning a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in education. She worked her entire career and retired from Baltimore County Public Schools, first as an elementary teacher then as a Reading/Learning Disabilities Specialist. Betty was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester. Prior to moving to Winchester, she was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Glen Arm, MD and St. David’s Episcopal Church in Englewood, FL. She was an avid quilter and made many quilts for family, friends, and for the Appalachian Mission.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Mac whom she married on June 16, 1951, her parents, and daughter, Alison M. Doherty.
She is survived by her son David B. MacDonald (Jennifer) of Round Hill, VA; grandchildren, Megan M. Yuska (Peter) of Purcellville, VA, Catherine E. Doherty (Matthew Grant) of Rockville, MD, Emily E. MacDonald of Leesburg, VA, great-grandchildren Charlotte, Trent, and Abigail Yuska and son-in-law Michael Doherty of North Potomac, MD.
A private service will be held for close family.
