Betty Haymaker Carroll, 80, of Bunker Hill, West Virginia passed away Friday, July 7, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Carroll was born in 1937 in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Arthur and Emma Haymaker. She was a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 1955. Mrs. Carroll was the President/CEO of Farmers and Merchants National Bank until her retirement in 2001. Her life achievements were many; she received the Business and Professional Women Community Leadership Award, was Secretary of Stonewall Jackson American Institute of Banking, sat on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce, Winchester President of the American Heart Association, sat on the Board of Directors for Apple Valley Credit, also the Martinsburg Board of Directors for F&M Bank, as well as the Winchester Medical Center, a secretary on the Board of Trustees for Shenandoah University, received the Norman Bayliss Memorial Reward for Outstanding Service to the Stonewall Chapter of the American Banking Institute, a volunteer for the United Way Campaign, received the Shenandoah University Twelfth Man Award for the dedication in development of the Shenandoah University Football Program, recipient of two (2) John Handley High School Gavel Awards in support of the Judges Athletic Association, a recipient of the Eddie Manuel Service Award for outstanding contributions to the Judges Athletic Association, as well as a recipient of the Ancil Gray Service Award for outstanding contributions to the Judges Athletic Association. Mrs. Carroll was also the Cox School of Business Certified Banking Director of Development Degree, was on the annual fundraising committee for Shenandoah University and the Handley Archives committee. Her history with F&M Bank in Winchester is quite extensive including the note department, assistant cashier, Assistant Vice President in charge of commercial loans and real estate operations, Vice President of Savings Operations, Personnel Director, Senior Vice President and in charge of money management and marketing, Executive Vice President, eventually President and CEO and served as a board member for F&M National Bank Corporation. She attended Centenary Reform Church in Winchester, Virginia. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that will be missed by all.
Mrs. Carroll married James “Jimmy” Carroll on October 30, 1955 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with her beloved husband of 61 years is daughter, Beth Lewin and husband, Andrew “Andy” of Clear Brook, Virginia; sons, Mike Carroll of Winchester, Virginia and David Carroll and wife, Dianne of Clear Brook, Virginia; sisters, Frances Fortune and husband, Tommy of Clear Brook, Virginia, Barbara Ward and husband, Richard of Winchester, Virginia and Margaret Marlowe of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Tyler and Ann Carroll of Winchester, Virginia, Emma Carroll Overstreet of Charleston, South Carolina, Jenna Lewin Milburn, Jake and Brett Lewin all of Clear Brook, Virginia, Dade, Darcy, and Dalaney Carroll of Clear Brook, Virginia; and great grandchild, Odin Milburn of Clear Brook, Virginia.
Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Cassi Tilling Carroll; brother-in-law, Charles Marlowe; brothers, Richard Benjamin Haymaker, Sr., John Thomas Haymaker, Frank Haymaker, and an infant brother.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Steve Melester officiating. Interment will be private.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Arnold, Jerry Headley, Bob Kendall, Wilbur Kersey, Bill Minor, Alan Oates, Jim Omps, David Rickard, Bob Solenberger.
