Bessie Rae Blankenship (Harmon), aged 79, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Born on April 27, 1947, in Capital Heights, Maryland, Bessie was the beloved daughter of the late Kenneth Harmon and Mary Harmon (Goins). She was a graduate of Capital Heights High School. Bessie spent her professional life dedicated to helping others in the healthcare industry, serving as a well-regarded Office Manager for the medical practice of Dr. Lewis before her retirement.
On December 4, 1993, Bessie married her devoted husband, David A. Blankenship, in Gore, Virginia. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with adventure. Bessie had a deep passion for travel and was always on the go, eager to explore new places and meet new people. Known for her boundless generosity, she truly loved helping anyone in need. Above all else, her family was the center of her world and what mattered most to her.
She is survived by her loving husband, David A. Blankenship; her daughter, Mary McCullough (Jamey Davey); her sons, William Larry McCullough (and his companion of 20 years, Tracey) and Kenneth McCullough (Michelle); her twin sister, Freda Powers; seven cherished grandchildren, Larry, Jordan, Morranda, Miteka, Mercedes, Dustin, and Brittany; eight great-grandchildren and nephew, Clay Powers.
In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Harmon.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Christopher James Carter of the Pleasant Grove Victory Chapel officiating.
