Barbara Jean Koehler, 85 of Stephenson, VA, formerly of Bedford and Hanover, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 14, 2026, after a brief struggle with cancer.
She was born October 1, 1940, in Hanover, PA, the daughter of the late Louis Francis Patrick Noel and Mary Shaffer Noel.
Barbara was a graduate of Eichelberger High School class of 1958. She retired in 2005 after 33 years of service as an account clerk, processing parking tickets for the Winchester Police Department. While her daughters were young Barb served as a crossing guard for Quarles Elementary School and John Kerr Middle School, where a lot of the students began to call her mom. She also worked briefly at Capital records as a master checker.
Barb enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Europe, Myrtle Beach, Williamsburg, and many parts of the United States with her husband, family, and friends. Some of her favorite activities included riding her own motorcycle, dancing, listening to music, reading, doing puzzles, attending flea markets, and enjoying her favorite beverages from Starbucks. She also enjoyed annual Labor Day family weekends for many years at her father’s deer camp. Barb was also involved with the Winchester Apple Blossom Festival.
Barb is survived by her husband, Wayne Allan Koehler, and brother Stephen S. Noel (Patricia) that as a young lady she introduced him to the Beatles on the radio. Barbara has 2 daughters, Annette Koehler Evans (Steven Evans) of Middletown VA, and Rebecca Koehler Lerman of Massachusetts and sister-in-law, Priscilla Noel. She has 4 grandchildren Kristen Combs (Matt Combs), Jacob Lerman, Ava Lerman, and Zachariah Lerman, and a great grandson Huntley Combs whom all lovingly called her Grandma Bug. She also has many extended family members and friends, far too many to name that she loved and cherished.
In addition to her parents, Barb was proceeded in death by her brother, Captain Thomas F. Noel.
A celebration of life will be held for Barb on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 4 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
