Barbara “Barb” Janet Huffman Kain, 89, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Kain was born in 1927 in Stephens City, Virginia, the daughter of the late Frank and Sadie Huffman. She attended Stephens City High School. Barb retired from Avtex in Front Royal after 40 years of service. She was a member of AARP and Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, where she belonged to PCCW (a women’s group at Sacred Heart). Her greatest joy was her family, who always came first. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, as well as crocheting, needle point, and sewing. She also loved to be outside gardening and tending to her roses. Barb was always known to have an opinion and spoke her mind. We cannot forget about her love for her cat, Susie.
Barb’s husband, James A. Kain, whom she married on August 9, 1947 in Winchester, Virginia preceded her in death on April 26, 2005.
Surviving is a daughter, Judy Crim (Larry) of Clear Brook, Virginia and a son, Gary James Kain of Stephens City, Virginia; three grandchildren, Christopher J. Kain of Vienna, Virginia, Travis K. Gray (Mark Bove) of East Windsor, New Jersey, and Travis L. Crim of Hedgesville, West Virginia; one brother, Paige Huffman (Elva) of Winchester, Virginia.
Along with her husband, Barb was preceded in death by sisters, Marjorie Teets, Emily Heath, and Connie Smoke, as well as a brother, John David Huffman.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Brendan Bartlett officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, Virginia. A reception will follow the entombment at the Reception Center at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel (located in front of the cemetery).
Serving as pallbearers will be Franklin Smoke, Holmes Smoke, Jr., Christopher Kain, Travis Gray, Travis Crim, Mickey Grim, and Brian Grim.
