Azmi A. Uthman
Azmi Amin Uthman, 75, of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Uthman was born November 20, 1939, in Palestine, to Mr. and Mrs. Amin Uthman of Ramallah.
He was a graduate of Shepherd University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science, and the University of Virginia, achieving a master’s degree in foreign affairs. Mr. Uthman was a teacher with Winchester Public Schools for 30 years, teaching Government at John Handley High School. He retired in 2000.
Mr. Uthman was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester. He was a past-president of Shawnee Lions Club and past president and member of the Winchester Education Association. He was also a member of the Board of Architectural Review and chairman of the City Council Reorganization Committee for the city of Winchester.
Mr. Uthman was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte T. Uthman; his parents; a sister; and a brother.
Surviving is his wife, Susan; his daughter, Heather Widener and her husband, Michael of Falls Church, Virginia; son, Daniel Uthman and his wife, Mary, of Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren, Atticus Widener, Virginia Widener, and Claire Uthman; one sister and five brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Richard Reifsnyder officiating. Interment will be private.
