Arthur Lee “Butch” Carpenter, Jr., 77, of Inwood, WV, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Berkeley Medical Center.
Butch was born in 1948 in Harrison County, WV, son of the late Arthur Lee Carpenter, Sr. and Emma Louise Carpenter. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State University and was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam era. Butch was a History/Civics/Government educator at Potomac Falls High School, Philip Barbour High School, and Broad Run High School before his retirement. In the past he belonged to various Veteran’s organizations. Butch also coached high school football, tennis, basketball, soccer and was an Assistant Coach in the ‘80’s at his alma mater, Fairmont State University.
His wife, Donna Jo Carpenter, whom he married on August 3, 1974 in Clarksburg, WV, preceded him in death in 2023.
Surviving is a daughter, Tracy Anne Knight (Jason) of Stephenson, VA; grandchildren, Caden W. Knight and Collin L. Knight both of Stephenson, VA and Harley Carter of Morgantown, WV; sisters, Pam, Debbie, Darlene, Becky, and Janet; and brother, Danny.
Along with his parents and his wife, Butch was preceded in death by a son, Michael Kent Carpenter and sisters, Cathy and Cora.
