Arthur Edwin Johnson, 85 of Winchester, VA, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Eddie was born in 1940 in Tarboro, NC, the son of the loving late parents, Arthur C. and Mary Frances Johnson. Eddie was operator of Johnson’s Exxon in Stephenson. He also operated Exxon stations on Millwood Pike, Sunnyside, and Middletown during his career. He opened Johnson’s 2 on Welltown Road and operated it until he retired and then sold it to his grandson, Corey. Johnson’s Exxon and Johnson’s 2 were a huge part of Eddie’s life and left a lasting impression on the Winchester community. Many young lives were impacted by Eddie’s hard work ethic as he hired and mentored many young people whose names he always remembered. Through his Exxon stations, garages and towing he had an influence on his community that he never took for granted. Eddie was a member of Winchester Hiram Lodge and he also loved giving back to the community through donations to civic organizations and non-profits, but none so much as his sponsorship of little league baseball and men’s softball teams. He was one of the first sponsors of the Frederick County Little League Challenger Division for developmentally disabled children.
Eddie loved his family deeply and his greatest joy was spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his Woodbridge, and extended family. The family will always remember Eddie at family events with his video camera and then sharing the home movies with everyone.
Eddie married the love of his life and soulmate, Patricia “Patsy” McLaurin Johnson on September 2, 1962.
Surviving are his two loving daughters, Tammy Cunningham (Steve) and Kimberly Milburn (Donnie); four grandchildren, Corey Milburn (Amber), Mandy Renee Simko (Matt), Ryan Cunningham (Allie) and Zachary Cunningham; seven great-grandchildren, Camden and Holden Simko, Cole, Carley and Chase Milburn and Henry and Wyatt Cunningham; brothers-in-law, Mac McLaurin, and Bud Edwards. Eddie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews whom he loved tremendously.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia Johnson, sisters, Muriel Brown, Ann Culbertson and Janet Edwards and his brothers-in-law, Louis Culbertson and Kenneth Brown.
A gathering of family and friend will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 10am with a Celebration of Life to be conducted at 11:30am at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
