Arnold N. “Ben” Benford, 94, of Winchester, VA & formally of Somerset, PA, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at his home at The Village at Orchard Ridge.
Mr. Benford was born in 1926 in Johnstown, PA, son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Benford. He graduated from Ferndale High School, Ferndale, PA. Mr. Benford was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the WWII conflict. While in the Navy, Mr. Benford was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal & the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from Penn Furniture Company and after retirement was owner/operator of Heritage Picture Framing. Mr. Benford was a member of Somerset Lions Club and Trinity Lutheran Church in Somerset, PA.
He married Beverly Jane Duncan on August 20, 1950 in Johnstown, PA. Beverly & Arnold had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on August 20th, 2020.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Beth Schrock of Friedens, PA; sons, Mark Benford (Benna) of Beaufort, SC and David Benford (Karen) of Crownsville, MD; grandchildren, Jeremy Schrock, Jessica Wright, Chad Benford, Erin Oman, and Jackie Moreno; and four great- grandchildren; Drew & Ben Oman, Jordan Schrock, and Malachi Moreno, and sister, Martha Bell Freeman.
Along with his parents, Mr. Benford was preceded in death by son-in-law, Lon Eric Schrock; sister, Dorothy Pauline Castiligione and brother, Carl Matthew Benford.
A private family memorial is being held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
Plans are being made to hold a Celebration of Life in Somerset, PA at a date & time to be determined.
