Arlene Virginia Brown, 81 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Evergreen Health & Rehab in Winchester.
Arlene was born in 1942 in Front Royal, VA, the daughter of the late Hubert and Goldie Smedley. She graduated from Piedmont Community College with her associate degree in nursing. She retired after 34 years as a registered nurse, working at UVA Hospital for 14 years and spending 20 years at Winchester Medical Center. Arlene was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester.
She loved going to the senior center and shopping with her family. Arlene was a wonderful nurse and was always willing to help. She also wrote a book about her life in an orphanage.
She is survived by her former husband, Robert L. Brown, daughters, Kim L. Brown (Ricky Atkins), Sherry L. Meister (Troy); sister, Linda Smedley; brother, Hubert Smedley, Jr. (Lou); nephew, Wesley Brill (Pam); great-nephew, Benjamin Brill and her loving cat of 14 years, Leia.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia Smedley Brill.
A visitation will be held for Arlene on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 11am with a service at 12pm all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum. Officiating will be Pastor Wayne Fricke.
