Arlene Lounette Piper Proper, 93 of Middletown, VA (formerly of Fenton, MI) passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 peacefully at her home with her family by her side.
Arlene was born in 1928 in Manistee, MI to the late Earl Frederick and Edith Bell Piper. She received her bachelors in education and masters in psychology from Central Michigan University. Arlene spent her career in Michigan working in education as a teacher, substitute teacher and high school counselor.
She is survived by daughters, Jamie-Lyn Cotton of Stanardsville, VA, Robin Konopa (Otto) of Middletown, VA, and Kimberly Rinker (Edward) of Edinburg, VA; sons, Glenn Proper of Blacksburg, VA, James Proper (Suzanne) of Texas and Bart Proper (Andrea) of Frederick, MD; grandchildren, Kristina Steward, Amanda Cotton, Kayleigh Cotton, Otto K. Konopa, Janna Konopa, James Konopa, Michael Rinker, Octavian Rinker, Anthony Proper, Ellasandra Proper, Owen Proper, Olivia Proper, Ava Proper, Brian Proper, and Sarah Proper; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Arlene is preceded in death by her twin who passed at infancy, Marguerite Proper, and sisters, Marvel Evens and Elna Piper. She is also preceded in death by the father of her children, James Earl Proper, Sr.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Winchester, VA, on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 11:00am. Celebrating the mass will be Rev. Stephen Vaccaro. There will be a visitation at the church one hour prior to mass from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Winchester, VA.
