Arlene Louise (Maul) Carbaugh
Arlene Louise (Maul) Carbaugh, age 65, of Winchester, Virginia, entered into the arms of her Savior on March 28, 2014, in Winchester, Virginia. Mrs. Carbaugh was born in 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Edna Maul. She graduated from John Handley High School in 1966 and subsequently graduated from Monroe Business College. She was a trust officer with Commercial and Savings, First Union, and Wachovia Bank for thirty-three years, retiring in 2001. In her “retirement”, she worked as a receptionist for The Willows at Meadow Branch for ten years. Mrs. Carbaugh was a member of Advent Lutheran Church and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority – Laureate Iota Chapter.
All her life, Arlene was a servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She played the piano, viola, hand bells, and organ with a deep love for church and classical music. Arlene was gifted with a beautiful and angelic voice, which she graciously used to sing praises to God. She had a great and courageous love for life.
Surviving is her husband, Wayne Winter Carbaugh, whom she married on April 27, 1996 in Winchester, Virginia. She is also survived by sisters Marilyn H. Gartner and husband, Reverend Allen of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Beverly J. McConnaughey and husband, Steven, of Hagerstown, Maryland, and her brother, David E. Maul and wife, Connie, of Bellville, Texas. She lovingly served as Godmother to Karen MacDonald, Justin McConnaughey, and Angela Frobish. Additionally, she was a loving aunt to: Jonathan Gartner, Karen MacDonald, Matthew Pressel (Kellie), Justin McConnaughey (Stephanie), Angela Frobish (Scott), Kevin McConnaughey (Elizabeth), and Donald Maul (Amber). She is also survived by her great-nieces and great-nephews: Jessica Lefers, Jennifer MacDonald, Tyce McConnaughey, Ross Pressel, Jeremy McConnaughey, Savannah Frobish, and Lincoln McConnaughey.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Noel Vold and Reverend Martha Miller Sims officiating. Following the service, interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: David Maul, Steve McConnaughey, Justin McConnaughey, Kevin McConnaughey, Dr. M. Roy Schwarz, and Ben Burkhart. Honorary pallbearers will be: Rev. Allen Gartner, Members of Advent Lutheran Church, The Handley Girls Class of 1966, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority – Laureate Iota Chapter Sisters.
