Archimedes “Arky” J. Proietti
Archimedes “Arky” Joseph Proietti, 87, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, April 14, 2014, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Proietti was born in 1927, in Mount Kisco, New York, the son of the late John and Natalie Proietti. He was a graduate of Mount Kisco High School and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in accounting. Mr. Proietti was a veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II achieving the rank of Tech Sargent. He was a Credit Manager with International General Electric in New York City and did a lot of international travelling for business. Mr. Proietti worked with White Plains NY Recreation as an umpire in baseball and a referee in basketball. He was President of the Holy Name Society at his church in Valhalla, NY; 100% President of the Valhalla NY Lions Club; and Commander of the American Legion in Valhalla. He was also Chairman of Bingo at Holy Name Church, serving for 40 years. The Valhalla Lions awarded him the Melvin Jones award; he was Zone Chairman for Zone Four Lions District 20R1 twice, and was on the Board of Directors of the Lions Mobile Testing unit for five years. He worked on the Lions Club SEE program (Screening Eyes Early) scanning eyes of three and four year olds if they have problems with their vision.
Arky loved to play golf and was honored to be a Marshall for PGA golf tournaments at Westchester Country Club for twenty years. Arky moved to Virginia in 2007 and quickly got involved in the Winchester Host Lions. He is a member of the local lodge of the Order Sons Italy in America. He is a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
He married Rose Martino on July 4, 1948, in White Plains, New York. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2012.
Surviving are three daughters, Laura Frappollo and husband, Albert, of Winchester, Cynthia Lipton and husband, David, of Oceanside, California, Karen Arbore of Carmel, New York, and daughter-in-law, Margie Proietti; eight grandchildren, Drew VanLaeken, Sandy Smith, Anthony Frappollo, Sara Hobbs, Lora Proietti, Joe Arbore, Alex Lipton, and Charles Arbore; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Edmond Proietti of Winchester and Raymond Proietti of New Jersey. His son, John Proietti, preceded him in death in April, 2001.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 21, 2014, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A vigil service will begin at 6:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Drew VanLaeken, Anthony Frappollo, Alex Lipton, Charlie Arbore, Andrew VanLaeken, Dylan VanLaeken, Jeffrey Smith and Jayden Smith.
