Anton “Tony” Welzel, 72, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Friday, July 18, 2014 in Warren Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Welzel was born in 1942 in Austria, the son of the late Robert and Mary Cope Welzel. He attended Handley High School. In the late 60s, he owned and operated Anton’s Texaco in Winchester. Following that, he became a salesman for Duncan Bros. He spent the remaining years of his life being a truck driver. Tony enjoyed drag racing, owning and working on Corvettes, and was a long-time member of the Hoppers Club. His favorite “hangout” was High Point Truck Stop.
Mr. Welzel and his wife, Patricia Haines Welzel, have been married for 50 years.
Surviving with his wife, is a son, Todd Welzel, and fiancée, Tammy, of Woodstock, Virginia; grandchildren, Dylan Welzel of Winchester, Virginia, Jamison Cook of Woodstock, Virginia; great grandchildren, Emmalee Welzel and Alivia Welzel; sister, Mary Fuller of Sarasota, Florida; brother, Walter Welzel, and wife, Mary, of Winchester, Virginia. Also surviving are very close friends, Jeff Feltner, Larry Loy, and Bill Swartz.
Mr. Welzel was preceded in death by a sister, Vicky Johnson and a brother, Robert Welzel, Jr.
