Annette Sue McNish Mey
Annette Sue McNish Mey, 66, of Winchester, Virginia died peacefully at home on 14 November 2013, surrounded by her family’s love.
Annette was born in Dekalb, Illinois on May 23, 1947, the daughter of Don Roland McNish and Madolyn Irene Johnson McNish, and grew up in Centralia, Illinois. She met her husband Dwight at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1966 and they married in 1967. After his graduation in Architecture and hers in Anthropology (with honors) in 1970, they moved with their month old daughter Margaret to Syracuse (Liverpool), New York where their second daughter Marcia was born in 1974. From Syracuse, they moved in 1979 to Boston (Concord), Massachusetts, and then to Winchester in 1981 where they spent the rest of the forty-five years of their lovely marriage.
She loved quilting, gardening, playing tennis, running, history, music, reading, and was wonderful at preparing meals and baking for her family. A major interest of hers was genealogical research, and she followed her mother’s family back to Sweden, and her father’s back to the settlement of Tennessee before the Revolutionary War.
Annette’s kind, sweet, generous nature was always welcoming to her friends, as well as people she had just met. She liked people and always saw and talked about the positive things she saw in others.
The love she had for her family was without limits and it was returned. She made us so proud to be her husband, daughters, sister, brothers-in-law, sons-in law, and grandchildren. She was a beautiful lady in every way.
Annette is survived by her husband, Dwight Allen Mey; daughter Margaret Jennifer Mey Tran, her husband Luan Tran, and their son, Emmett Mey Tran of Alexandria, Virginia; daughter Marcia Elizabeth Mey, her husband Jeffery Seltzer, and their children Gabriel Mey Seltzer, and Eloise Mey Seltzer of Washington, DC; her sister Connie Lynn McNish Funkhouser and brother-in-law William Funkhouser of Edwardsville, Illinois; brother-in-law Donald Mey of Tucson, Arizona; niece Deb Funkhouser Wood and her family of Brooklyn, New York; and nephew Timothy Funkhouser and family of Edwardsville, Illinois.
The family will receive friends from 6PM to 8PM on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Services will be held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel on Wednesday, at 11:00AM with Reverend James L. Matheson officiating. Interment will be private.
